Drawing is something I’ve always loved and gone back to, especially since it’s more accessible than equipment reliant mediums. Bold line art is a style I gravitate towards— more time and effort go into simplifying a design and giving it that clean look than I often anticipate, but I love that part of the process. I tend to stick to black & white illustration, but when I do incorporate color I love the use of bright colors that stand out. I want the subject to be obvious and each element to hold its own space.
Venturing into more realistic black and white pieces has been a new discovery for me. It lets me exercise the more technical aspect of art. Studying a photo’s values and trying to accurately capture them feels similar to doing a puzzle. I enjoy adding a small element of creativity when a piece is finished so that I can feel like there’s a piece of me in there— typically by giving it a non realistic background or adding in other types of media.
